What people had to say…

The Open Evening held on 25th September was the busiest yet, with more parents and potential students enjoying an informative and enjoyable evening than ever before. This was a great opportunity for potential parents and students to meet staff, existing Academy students as well as other parents, whilst experiencing the outstanding facilities and learning of the breadth of subject available to study.

Our media students wanted to capture the mood of the evening and have compiled a short ‘VOX POP’ series of interviews.
If you where unable to make the Open Evening contact the Academy to arrange a personal visit.

Congratulations Emily!

Bosworth Academy congratulates former student, Emily Scarratt, on winning the World Cup. Emily produced the two stand out performances of the recent women’s Rugby World Cup in both the semi-final and final. She scored the match winning try in the close fought final against Canada and kicked 11 points. Her performance confirmed her as a global figure in the women’s game as England’s most influential player with her incisive running. The victory for England and Emily went some way to compensate for the disappointment of losing in the final to New Zealand four years ago. Emily, still only 24, with 54 caps to her name could become a record breaker in terms of points and caps. She is looking forward to the challenge of being a full time professional athlete following selection with the Sevens squad in preparation for the Rio Olympics, where Rugby 7’s will feature for the first time. Emily has been a great supporter of Bosworth since leaving in 2008. She has presented to both the senior leadership team training day and whole staff training looking at how aspects of preparation for elite sport could transfer into education, and more recently offered coaching session to budding young players as part of the Academy Open Day. Everyone at the Academy wants to congratulate Emily on her outstanding achievement and thank her for her continued support of her former school, Bosworth.

Former Student Returns To Bosworth

Former Bosworth student, Jon Pesic-Smith, returned to school to deliver a key note address to the staff as part of the August training day programme. After studying A Level Maths, Chemistry and Biology at Bosworth Jon went on to Cambridge Trinity College to study Medicine. He is currently in his fourth year of Neurosurgery at Newcastle Hospital. Jon shared aspects of both his training and professional life with the staff, looking at team work, communication, procedures and analysis, making excellent connections between the two professions. He followed his presentation with an informative and entertaining question and answer session. He continues to be a great advocate and supporter of his former school, presenting awards that carry his name for outstanding achievement in the Sciences at the Annual Excellence Evening.

Bosworth Academy record highest English and Maths results

We are pleased that the number of students gaining 5 good GCSE passes has held up compared to last year, given the turbulent exam system that we are currently working within, where schools had been told to brace themselves for unpredictable results. We are particularly delighted to have achieved our highest ever English and Maths results, with 77% of students gained A*-C in Maths, and 75% gaining the highest grades in English.

Bosworth has operated an active policy of significantly increasing the emphasis on the hardest GCSE courses. As a result our students’ GCSE only results across the curriculum rose significantly compared to last year, with each student achieving on average nine grades more than last year’s Year 11s. It’s a pity that published league tables will not fully reflect this, however as ever, we will continue to strive for the very best for all our young people and not chase league table statistics for their own sake. There were numerous starring performances such as:

Joe Aziz
Achieved: 9A*, 1 A and 1A^ in Further Maths
Joe will be staying on at Bosworth Academy to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry

Tamsin Durrant
Grades Achieved: 9A* and 2 A
Tamsin will be staying on at Bosworth Academy, selecting a mix of both subjects from the arts and sciences. Tamsin put down her success to revision and lots of hard work.

Saneeca Jain
Grades Achieved: 7A*, 3A and 1A^ in Further Maths
Sanecca put all or her success down to hard work and the teachers at the Academy and can’t wait to come back to study Computing, Biology, Maths and Chemistry

Ashlin Oskoui
Grades Achieved: 10A*, 2A and 1B
Ashlin will be staying at Bosworth to study the three sciences and Maths.

5 A* – C including English and Maths 64%

5 A* – G 97%
1 A* – C 98%

Best ever A level results for Bosworth Academy students

Students at Bosworth Academy in Desford have once again achieved some outstanding A level results. Last year we achieved our best ever outcomes and have managed to achieve even more this year. The numbers of students gaining the highest grades this year is tremendous and backs the national trend with 1 in 2 entries rewarded by the top grades of A*, A or B.

There are some fantastic individual stories of achievement such as Joe Withers, Grace La Piccirella and Hannah Williamson. Having achieved 11 straight A* grades in his GCSE’s at Bosworth Academy Joe Withers went on to achieve five A grades at AS level. He has now been awarded four A* and an A grade at A level. Joe is now going on to study architecture at The University of Bath. Grace La Piccirella achieved three A grades and an A* at A level and is pursuing a course at The University of East Anglia to study Natural Sciences. Having been offered a place at all the institutions to which she applied Hannah Williamson is now undertaking a course in Fashion Design at Northumbria University. She achieved straight A and A* grades in all her subjects at A level.

Bosworth Academy has a policy of challenging our students to do the hardest A level subjects such as Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics. These subjects alone have achieved an amazing 63 A*/A grades between them. These results are a testimony to the hard work and commitment which our students and staff have put in over the last two years. It’s great to see them go on to study at some of the most prestigious Universities in the country. We wish them the very best in their future lives, and look forward to hearing about their success in the future.
