150 New Lifesavers at Bosworth Academy

On Friday 12th December 2014, Year 10 students were given an opportunity to learn about the importance of first response and CPR. The training was part of the British Heart Foundation initiative ‘Call, Push Rescue’ and supported by the ground breaking Leicestershire Heartsafe Programme. Bosworth Academy students were very fortunate to have trainers from all backgrounds including Cardiac Specialists and Paramedics; the session itself was led by a top Cardiac Consultant from Glenfield Hospital. Our two Year 11 ambassadors, Beth Kenney and Stephen Gamage also provided support for the Year10 students. During the training, students were shown a short video/scenario which set the scene for the training and involved a young boy of the same age as the students. Following this students were each able to work with their own dummy to go through the CPR training. Students then had an opportunity to learn about how to use a defibrillator. The school as part of the programme now has a defibrillator on site; this will be placed in the reception area very soon. Student feedback from the event was very positive, many enjoyed the practical part of the training together with the fact that can now feel confident in saving a life! The Academies aim is to now roll the training out to Year 11 with the support of the PE faculty and the resources provided to us by the British Heart Foundations.

To Seek – To Find – To Make Safe

Richard III’s remains will be re-interred in Leicester Cathedral in March 2015. In order to mark this remarkable event and to bring a contemporary relevance, the community of Desford are constructing a “Cascade and swath” of 5929 White York Roses. Each rose representing one of the 5929 instances of a citizens of Leicestershire who go missing ever year, the vast majority are young people. Each instance of a missing person is caused by a failure to protect often the most vulnerable in our society. As with the passion to seek, find and make safe King Richard, we pledge to seek, find and make safe those young people who for whatever reason go missing each year in Leicestershire. Fitness Fortnight in Yr10 & Yr11 Core PE (12th-23rd January)

It will be fitness fortnight during core PE from Monday 12- Friday 23 January. This is the opportunity for students to take part in a variety of different fitness sessions. They will be challenged to work as hard as they can which will help them to develop their resilience. All students will need to bring a full change of PE kit, even those students who are carrying an injury. One option will involve a bootcamp session where students will be exercising in the mud and are likely to get very dirty. If your child is interested in this, it is important they bring clothes that are suitable. A water bottle is also recommended!

What people had to say…

The Open Evening held on 25th September was the busiest yet, with more parents and potential students enjoying an informative and enjoyable evening than ever before. This was a great opportunity for potential parents and students to meet staff, existing Academy students as well as other parents, whilst experiencing the outstanding facilities and learning of the breadth of subject available to study.

Our media students wanted to capture the mood of the evening and have compiled a short ‘VOX POP’ series of interviews.
If you where unable to make the Open Evening contact the Academy to arrange a personal visit.
