On Thursday 26 October we gladly welcomed students and their parents/carers from other schools around Leicestershire, as well as those from Bosworth Academy, for our Post 16 open evening.
Current Sixth Form student ambassadors greeted our visitors and gave them a guided tour of the Academy with subject specialists showcasing the different departments on offer.
From chorizo sizzling in Food Science and Nutrition to Vapo Rub making in Chemistry, subjects came to life and visitors were offered a great insight to what they can study at Post 16.
During the evening the two presentations discussed the culture and value systems which enable students to progress into future career pathways.
One of our former students, Samantha Martin, now studying History at Somerville College at Oxford University, addressed the presentations via video link. Samantha discussed how she strives to go out of her comfort zone and be better than she thought she could be by applying for Oxbridge after not initially considering that option.
Year 11 students will now consider their options for next year and if you have further questions or want more information about our Post 16 provision please contact Post 16 Administrator, Lesley Brookes, at [email protected]
Steps to Success Year 11 Evening
Year 11 is a crucial year for students and we are keen to support students to ‘be better than they thought they could be’. To support this, we would like to invite you to attend our ‘Steps to Success’ evening for Year 11 students and parents on Wednesday 1st November from 5pm with refreshments available. The first talk begin at 5:15 in the Main Hall and will focus on:
- The Year 11 timeline for the year
- How to support your child with revision
- Well-being support and guidance for the year
- Any questions you may have for us
Following this, subject specialists will be offering 15 minutes top tip sessions for subject specific revision in English, Maths and Science in classrooms for parents to attend. These will last for 15 minutes and will repeat three times to allow access for all attendees.
The first key point of the year for Year 11 are the trial exams which begin in the second week after half term. Students should be starting to practise revision strategies and techniques to see what works for them in preparation for these exams.
If your child has received a letter informing them that they are receiving SLT mentoring, you will have the opportunity to meet Mrs Coulson at the end of the evening. Mrs Coulson is overseeing the implementation of the programme and she will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
You can book your tickets here or by scanning the QR code.

Marvellous Achievements by Bosworth Year 11 Students
Year 11 Bosworth Academy students and staff celebrated some wonderful results at GCSE level. With Ofqual ensuring GCSE outcomes return to pre-pandemic 2019 levels the high grades achieved today are significant.
Though this year’s cohort of year 11 have seen learning disrupted through the pandemic they have risen to the challenge of examinations returning nearly to normal.
“It was amazing to see so many happy students this morning, celebrating their results with their parents, carers and friends. Our year 11 students have shown real purpose these last few years in wanting to achieve above and beyond what they thought possible. They showed such determination, resilience and tenacity in rising to the challenge of 2023 exams, which Ofqual have ensured are now comparable with pre-pandemic 2019 outcomes.
I’m proud of how they have engaged in so many aspects of wider school life, remaining optimistic and motivated to overcome the challenges they had to face during a turbulent secondary education.
I’d like to thank our superb, dedicated team of staff, who have inspired and supported our students to achieve great things, at times helping students to overcome such adversity. We all wish our year 11 students success in the future, many of whom we’ll be welcoming into our successful Sixth Form next week.”Simon Brown, Headteacher
“We are so proud of how students have done this year. Throughout their time with us they have demonstrated excellent character and citizenship, overcoming obstacles to achieve success. It was very clear, throughout the examination series, that students had grown into mature and responsible young adults and we cannot wait to see the incredible contributions they will make to society in the future.”
Tom Worn, Assistant Headteacher; Key Stage 4

Huge Congratulations to Bosworth Students
Today Bosworth Academy Sixth Form students and staff are celebrating a fantastic set of A level and AS level grades.
“Huge congratulations to all of our students who have received their A/AS examination results today. They have remained resilient and worked exceptionally hard, under challenging circumstances, with these A-levels being the first set of public examinations that they have sat. Throughout their time at Bosworth Academy they have focused exceptionally well, shown true grit and determination to overcome any difficulties, and remained enthusiastic about learning. There have been so many outstanding and inspirational student achievements today that we are so proud of. It’s been great to see so many students achieving places on their first choice University courses, especially considering the concerning stories we heard about this in the press over the summer.
Our incredible teachers and support staff deserve a big thank you for their dedication and commitment in helping our students achieve these great milestones. We wish our students great success in the next stage of their lives with many exploring undergraduate degrees, beginning an apprenticeship or employment. We are excited to hear about what our students will achieve in the future and encourage them to keep in touch.”
Simon Brown, Headteacher
“I would like to take this opportunity to recognise and congratulate the effort, commitment and achievement of our sixth form students receiving grades today. Some sat externally assessed exams for the first time and they have achieved a great set of results.
These grades will help many of them to confirm their places at university or on an apprenticeship, and I am pleased by the growing number of students who have secured places on degree apprenticeships with some very prestigious companies.
Although academic achievement is important, we know that one of the most valuable measures of success is the ability for students to have developed the skills to enable them to flourish in whichever pathway they choose, those of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, character, creativity and citizenship. It is important to recognise the hard work and commitment of our students, but also the school staff and parents/carers during another difficult year. I want to wish our students the very best for their next steps and look forward to hearing about their achievements.”
Louise Holdback, Assistant Headteacher – Sixth Form Leader
2023 examination results are significant as Ofqual have returned to pre-pandemic grading meaning that national results will be more comparable with pre-pandemic 2019 outcomes.
Senior examiners have importantly reviewed the quality of student work, and made allowances this summer where national performance is lower than before the pandemic due to disruption. Universities are aware of the approach to grading in 2023 and have taken this into account when making offers.

GCSE Options Presentation Event 2023
GCSE Options Presentation Event 2023
On Monday 30 January 2023 we will be holding a presentation event that explains the GCSE option process to parents and carers of Year 8 students.
This event is designed to give parents and carers the information they need in order to support their children in choosing their GCSE options.
Our students leave Bosworth Academy confident that they can be future leaders, ready to adapt to an ever-changing world and transition into job sectors that don’t even exist yet!
Our GCSE curriculum allows students to choose from a wide range of subjects that they are interested in, but most importantly provides the necessary skills in order to progress onto further study or training.
Whilst all of our subjects allow students to progress onto further study, some A-Level subjects require the subject to have been studied at GCSE level first. Our presentation event aims to give parents and carers the information they need in order to support their children in choosing their GCSE options.
You can learn more by visiting our Key Stage 4 curriculum page: https://www.bosworthacademy.
Additional information about the options process will be sent to you soon through our various school communication mediums.
Format of the evening
We will be holding two identical presentations. One at 5:30 and another at 6:15 and you can book your place here. There will be time after each presentation to ask questions about the process. Our SENDCO will also be on hand to answer questions from parents who wish to discuss their child’s specific learning needs. We will attempt to speak to as many parents as possible on the night however, demand to speak to our SENDCO is also high. You might prefer to complete our online form and detail what you would like to discuss, along with some contact details, and we will get in touch with you as soon as possible.
Arriving and Parking
Spaces are limited. Please allow plenty of time to park your car. If you live locally, we recommend leaving your car at home and we ask only one car be used per family if possible. You should enter via our main reception area where you will then be directed to our main hall.
Attending the presentation
We only have limited spaces available in our presentations. Only ticket holders will be permitted to enter – please have your ticket ready, either on your phone or printed. Please arrive at our main hall no later than five minutes before the presentation is due to start. Please occupy all available seats and try to avoid leaving gaps.
