With the arrival of a new team kit to play in Bosworth Academy Boys Basketball is enjoying a very successful season. Under the guidance of Coach Igor Mirkovic the boys have benefitted from their weekly training programme and are currently unbeaten having won all of their 4 games so far this season with victories over John Cleveland College, King Edward V11 Coalville, Ashby and William Bradford. Bosworth Academy will be doing its bit to continue to support junior basketball development in the area with a new junior basketball academy beginning in February for 13-18 year olds.

Following their success in the Leicestershire Schools Championships Bosworth U16 Girls competed in the Zone Finals in Grantham. Up against other county champions from Nottinghamshire and Suffolk the girls were always going to find the going tough especially with two of the 5 girls playing in their first competitive matches. In the first set of matches against Ipswich High School for Girls Bosworth were able to chalk up one victory within the first four matches. In the second series of matches the girls were able to take points off their opponents but only one game; losing the match 7-1 overall. In the second match against eventual winners Walton Girls High School Bosworth competed in some tight games but were unable to win an individual match against some very talented players; losing the match 8-0. On the positive side the girls got to see what they could achieve in a year’s time if they continue to play and find themselves a club to join. Hopefully the 5 girls will all play in the upcoming individual county championships and start to play in the county junior league.
Bosworth Academy will always endeavour to open when it is safe and practicable to do so. We have to balance a number of factors such as whether bus companies feel it’s safe to travel; if we can get sufficient staff in for safe supervision; if the site can be made safe; if we can provide food for students. We will always try to enable external examinations to run. If the school has to close notification will be given via local radio and posted on the website immediately.

Sub-Saharan Africa.
In 2007 Bosworth Academy (formerly Bosworth Community College), with support of the British Council, became involved in an International Partnership with two schools in Kaduna, Nigeria. This was a very positive three year partnership which initially involved staff exchange visits and culminated in six Bosworth students visiting Nigeria in 2009 to work with their partner schools’ sports leaders and run a football festival. Due to the success of this partnership the British Council proposed we develop the partnership through the Connecting Classrooms schemes which expanded the partnership to include a further two schools in Nigeria and the UK (Market Bosworth High School and Winstanley) and also a three school cluster in Khartoum, Sudan. As the partnership developed St Peter’s Primary School in Market Bosworth and also Desford Primary School became involved.
On Monday 15th October three teachers from Nigera and four from Sudan visited our schools to spend time observing lessons and meeting with senior members of staff in the schools involved. The idea of the partnership is to share ideas of teaching and learning and also to develop ways to connect our students. The visiting teachers commented on how calm the learning environment was and also on the level of engagement of our students in their learning in all the schools visited. The week also gave our students the opportunity to engage with the visitors, acting as guides around the schools and also having the opportunity to discuss the activities they were undertaking in lessons.
The week certainly enriched the cultural awareness of the schools and we look forward to continuing this international partnership in the future
