Remember Together

In assemblies leading up to Remembrance Sunday our theme has been ‘Remember Together’. Students have been recognising the service, sacrifice, and collaboration of the men and women of Britain, the Commonwealth and Allied nations who fought together 75 years ago in WWII in the lead up to D-day. As part of the assembly Mr. Brown shared the WWII experiences of his own Grandfather who served with the RAF and became a POW. During the ‘Last Post’ students paid their respect and united to ensure no-one is forgotten and to honour those who have sacrificed themselves to secure & protect our freedom.

An Arundel Tomb

Side by side, their faces blurred,
The earl and countess lie in stone,
Their proper habits vaguely shown
As jointed armour, stiffened pleat,
And that faint hint of the absurd–
The little dogs under their feet.

Such plainess of the pre-baroque
Hardly involves the eye, until
It meets his left hand gauntlet, still
Clasped empty in the other; and
One sees, with sharp tender shock,
His hand withdrawn, holding her hand.

They would not think to lie so long.
Such faithfulness in effigy
Was just a detail friends could see:
A sculptor’s sweet comissioned grace
Thrown off in helping to prolong
The Latin names around the base.

They would not guess how early in
Their supine stationary voyage
Their air would change to soundless damage,
Turn the old tenantry away;
How soon succeeding eyes begin
To look, not read. Rigidly they

Persisted, linked, through lengths and breadths
Of time. Snow fell, undated. Light
Each summer thronged the grass. A bright
Litter of birdcalls strewed the same
Bone-riddled ground. And up the paths
The endless altered people came,

Washing at their identity.
Now, helpless in the hollow of
An unarmorial age, a trough
Of smoke in slow suspended skeins
Above their scrap of history,
Only an attitude remains:

Time has transfigured them into
Untruth. The stone finality
They hardly meant has come to be
Their final blazon, and to prove
Our almost-instinct almost true:
What will survive of us is love.

Excellence Evening 2019

On the evening of September 12th, students, parents and staff gathered at Bosworth Academy, to celebrate outstanding performances in the summer examinations. On arrival students and parents alike were unaware of the subject in which they were to be awarded adding to the excitement and intrigue of the evening. Awards on the evening rewarded the very top performers of each subject at both GCSE and A Level. Each of the awards were presented by the Heads of Faculty from each of the subject areas, supporting the announcements with beautifully written pen portraits.

The evening was supported by three outstanding vocal performances from Bosworth students and staff. In addition to this, Assistant Head, Louise Holdback, invited ex-student Harsh Patel to tell us about his experiences at Bosworth Academy and then the first year of his Medicine Degree. Harsh, was truly inspirational and made some outstanding observations about his time at the Academy: this part of the evening was really well received by students and parents. At the end of the evening students and parents were able to make use of our popular, professional and exciting photo wall to get some photographs of students and their awards.

Download the PDF contact sheet below, if you are interested in any of the photos, make note of the photo reference numbers below each and email your requests to Sarah Smith ([email protected]) who will email your selection to you:
