Bosworth Academy Excellence Evening 2018

On the evening of September 13th, students, parents and staff gathered at The Marriott Hotel, Leicester, to celebrate outstanding performances in the summer examinations. On arrival students and parents alike were unaware of the subject in which they were to be awarded adding to the excitement and intrigue of the evening. Awards on the evening rewarded the very top performers of each subject at both GCSE and A Level. Each of the awards were presented by the Heads of Faculty from each of the subject areas, supporting the announcements with beautifully written pen portraits.

The evening was supported by three outstanding vocal performances from Bosworth students. In addition to this, Deputy Head of School, Ben White, invited ex-student Jack Collin to tell us about his experiences at Bosworth Academy and then University life; this part of the evening was really well received by students and parents. At the end of the evening students and parents were able to make use of our popular, professional and exciting photo wall to get some photographs of students and their awards.

Download the PDF contact sheet below, if you are interested in any of the photos, make note of the photo reference numbers below each and email your requests to Sarah Smith ([email protected]) who will email your selection to you:

OUTSTANDING GCSE OUTCOMES!

Students are celebrating yet another magnificent set of GCSE results. They have worked tirelessly to achieve high outcomes across a wide range of subjects excelling in both English and Mathematics.

This is the first set of results in many reformed subjects, graded 9-1, which include; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Science, Art and Design, Computer Science, Drama, Geography, History, and PE. The new content of the reformed GCSEs is more demanding, controlled assessments have been removed and all assessment are at the end of the course. Despite this new rigour, Bosworth students have continued to achieve the highest grades, including many exceptional grade 9’s. We are delighted that students will be progressing into our Sixth Form to continue their learning journey.

Simon Brown, Head of School said, “Congratulations to all of our students for their amazing achievements. They have worked incredibly hard throughout their time at Bosworth and achieved well beyond what they even thought was possible. Staff and students across all areas of our curriculum have worked creatively and collaboratively to overcome the challenges faced by new GCSEs and this has resulted in strong outcomes.”

Bosworth Academy is a highly inclusive school and take students from a range of educational backgrounds. The staff focus on ensuring that learning is relevant, engaging and creative so that students are engaged in what they do and aspire to ‘be better than they thought they could be’.

With the introduction of many new reformed GCSEs with a new grading structure it is not directly comparable to the A*-G system so comparisons to previous years cannot be made at this early stage. Further analysis continues and more information will follow on our website at a later date.

Remarkable Results from Class of 2018

There have been so many success stories in our Sixth Form once again this year, and we have only been able to share a few of them so far. Students have been sharing their next steps with us, whether this be University, apprenticeships or employment – we are so proud of you all!

Bosworth Academy students achieved higher outcomes than national in all measures at A level. In our Sixth Form there were nearly 500 exam entries. Every single entry was at least a pass, that’s 100% A*-E, higher than the national average of 97.6%. More than 80% of grades were at a C or above. Over a quarter of all grades achieved were a stunning A*/A, once again higher than national, with very nearly 10% of all grades at A*.

Simon Brown, Head of School, stated, “Bosworth students who entered Level 3 BTEC National qualifications mirrored our A level success. Nearly half of all vocational grades achieved were at the prestigious Distinction or Distinction Star level (equivalent to A*/A). Every single grade achieved was at least a Pass with 70% of grades at a Merit level or higher. Our students have brilliantly risen to every challenge and worked tirelessly through these hands-on qualifications, grounded in the world of work.”

Many of our Year 12 students also tasted success yesterday during their first year of study. It was great to see them receiving fantastic AS level results as the majority of them build towards full A level entry.

Sensational Sixth Form Success!

Once again this summer students at Bosworth Academy are celebrating excellent A-level and AS-level results, with the majority of students now progressing to their choice of University.

Simon Brown, Head of School, “Today has truly been a day of celebration for our students following their many years of hard work, commitment and dedication to their studies. Their remarkable achievements are a result of their true belief that success can be achieved through rising to every challenge, being open to feedback and deliberate, determined practice. We’re immensely proud of our staff too who have provided a tremendous level of support and expertise for our students. Students’ outcomes are higher than ever, a magnificent achievement especially considering that many of these results were from newly reformed A levels being assessed for the first time.”

Some individual successes included:
Thomas Lindop achieved A*, A*, A*, A* in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry and is going to read Mathematics at the University of Warwick.
Sam Lovett achieved A*, A*, A*, A in Chemistry, Maths, Physics and Further Maths and is going to read Mechanical Engineering at University of Bristol.
Jess Hazell achieved A*, A*, A* in English Literature, History and PE and is going to read Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough University.
Rahil Morjaria achieved A*, A*, A* in Maths, Further Maths, and Physics and is going to read Mathematics at the University of Bristol.
Matthew Trotter achieved A*, A*, A* in Maths, Physics and Chemistry and is going to read Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol.
Kieran Morris achieved A*, A*, A in Maths, Further Maths and Physics and is going to read Mathematics at the University of Bristol.
Olivia Timperley achieved A*, A*, A in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and is going to read Medicine at the University of East Anglia.
Samuel Foster who achieved A, A, A in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics and is now progressing to the University of Leeds to read Aviation Technology with Pilot Studies.
Helen Bartram-Evans achieved A, A, A in Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology is now progressing to the University of Birmingham to read Biomedical Science.

Parents of Jessica Hazel said, “She got the results she deserved because of her hard work and effort throughout the last two years”.
Mother of Helen Bartram said, “I am so proud of Helen her hard work has really paid off.”
Mother of Sam Foster said, “Sam’s aim since a very young age has been to be a pilot. Bosworth Academy staff have gone out of their way to support Sam in achieving this lifelong dream. I am now delighted that he can now go on to achieve his ambition.”

Bosworth Academy is proud that they challenge all students to ‘be better than they thought they could be’ by raising the aspirations of every learner. This is the first set of A-level results for many subjects following the introduction of reformed, linear A-levels with updated, more demanding content, and only the second year for others. Therefore the last two years has proven to be quite a challenge for students and for teachers as they adapt to these changes, though one where all have really risen to the challenges faced. In facilitating subjects, those A levels most frequently required for university entry (Mathematics,Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Literature, Geography, History and French), a tremendous 41% of all grades achieved by students were an A* or A.

As well as success measured in grades we are confident that our young people leave Bosworth having developed their curiosity, imagination, resilience and empathy towards others. Our learners are equipped with agency and a sense of purpose, and the competencies they need to shape their own lives and contribute to the well-being of others.

A-Level Results Day 2018: Thursday 16th August 2018
