Joseph Aziz

Nominated for: Science and Maths Achievement Award

The youngster’s passion for both Maths and Science has seen him excel in them. So much so he is expected to pick up top grades at GCSE.

He has spent several weekends taking part in the Royal Institution Mathematics master classes at Snibston and during half term holidays attended attended De Montfort University to complete a course in robotics.

In addition, he went to Cambridge yo attend a science festival with his mum and aunt and has ambitions to study there one day.

Joseph’s Talents also extend to raising more than £700 for breast cancer research while at his primary school by doing a sponsored no TV for a month.

He was nominated by Eileen James, who said: “Joseph is a very dedicated to learning in all areas.

“He is so knowledgeable for his age and loves ploughing through his books. He is currently Don Quixote which is his second favourite book, his first being Lord of the Rings.

“He is a lovely boy and has a lovely disposition.”

Charlotte Murgatoryd

Nominated for: Community Achievement Award

Charlotte is a Year 10 student at Bosworth Academy. She has had to face many challenges in her life, as she has a very serious heart condition which means that she may face a heart transplant in the near future.

In spite of this, Charlotte is unfailingly cheerful, and is determined to reach her full potential both inside and outside school. She is working hard at her GCSE courses, and is a committed fundraiser. As well as visiting local schools to raise awareness of heart conditions and children with serious illness, Charlotte has raised impressive amounts for charities.

‘Heart Link’ which buys equipment for heart patients in Leicestershire, has benefitted from over £6,000 thanks to Charlotte, and ‘Dreamflight’ which sends seriously ill youngsters on the holiday of a lifetime, has received over £13,000.

Charlotte is an inspiration, and is a great ambassador for young people. She would be a very worthy recipient of this award.

Katherine Smith

Nominated for: A-Level Achievement Award

Katherine joined us at Bosworth Academy in Year 10 as a very timid, but clearly very able student. From this time Katherine spent four years with us and grew exponentially in both confidence and ability. She is a testament to hard work, one of the most able Science students we have ever taught and rightly deserves this nomination.

When we were given our set lists in the Science department in 2011 we were all pleased to
see her name amongst the many other talented Scientists. It was clear that Katherine was very driven to succeed from the outset of her Post-16 education and it’s not a question of if, but when her Science knowledge will surpass us all. She quickly showed that she not only had a natural flair for Science, but was determined not to rest upon her laurels and would push herself to be the very best she could be. She always sought feedback throughout her two years in class and more importantly acted upon any advice given, making outstanding progress. Never afraid to question, Katherine showed great maturity when approaching for extra support or clarification.

When she decided she wished to apply to read Natural Sciences at Cambridge, there was never any doubt that she would be an asset to the University, but also that it would be their great privilege to admit her. Her determination was demonstrated when she decided to take on an extra AS level in Mathematics in Year 13 to increase her chances of success. Although not naturally mathematically minded, Katherine worked as hard as ever, and was able to achieve the grade A that secured her place at Cambridge.

Katherine was always one of the shining stars in her Year – not easy when surrounded by many other gifted and talented students. However, she never displayed any signs of arrogance but was always modest and humble when praised. Even when her workload became so heavy that she started to doubt her abilities, she showed again her quiet determination and resilience to succeed.

As I hoped (but I think she did not dare to) Katherine achieved an A* in Biology, A in Chemistry, A in Geography, A in AS Maths and is now in her first year at Cambridge. We, as her teachers are all immensely proud of her, and are merely a bit-part players in her success. Katherine has matured into a remarkable young woman who it has been our pleasure and privilege to teach and we shall look back in years to come and recall how much she had to teach us.

Hannah Williamson

Nominated for: Arts Achievement Award

Hannah epitomizes all the qualities of the ideal Art and Design student. She is motivated, creative, original, inventive and enthusiastic. Hannah is always looking for opportunities to develop her work and produces far more than is asked of her. She talks fluently about her work and ideas and is always asking what if?

Gaining straight A grades at AS level and achieving almost faultless marks she is undoubtedly the best student we have ever had at Bosworth Academy. Outside school Hannah has excelled by winning East Midlands Young Artist of the Year 2013 for her outstanding watercolour painting. Hannah has the potential to become an extraordinary designer/artist and we are confident that she will excel in any field she chooses to specialise in.

There is no doubt she would be a very worthy recipient of the Young Achievers Arts Achievement Award should she be selected.
